Artefact No 15

Like the foundation of a building – the stable base that supports the structure above – Artefact No 15 is a symbol of strength and simplicity. It is built on architectural principles, where every detail serves a purpose and all excess has been stripped away. The candlestick stands as a solid, square block from which four slender rods rise, enclosing the candle to hold it in place. The thin rods ensure that the entire candle remains visible, displayed in its full form, just as it is. The shape is inspired by reinforcement bars protruding from a freshly cast concrete slab, capturing the essence of construction.

Unlike previous artefacts, which are handcrafted in small-scale production, Artefact No 15 is the first in the collection to explore an industrial manufacturing process. Produced in Shenzhen, this approach allows the piece to be more widely available while simultaneously reinforcing its conceptual foundation – a design rooted in construction and raw materiality. With this, Artefact No 15 introduces a new layer to the collection, demonstrating how industrial precision and thoughtful design can coexist.
