Tulip
In the spring of 2021, Blomsterfrämjandet, Klong and Straight Design Studio presented the results of the Tulip design competition. A tribute to the tulip where the task was to interpretate the vase Orb, designed by Straight Design Studio for Klong. Ten winning entries by independent creators were selected to be displayed in an exhibition filled with tulips.
The jury, consisting of representatives from Blomsterfrämjandet, Klong and Straight Design Studio, as well as the two external experts Stefan Nilsson – trend expert and Amanda Hallams – architect, assessed the contributions according to the following criteria:
• Applicability to function for tulips
• Visual aesthetics
• Conceptual idea
• Level of creativity
• Artistic expression
• Qualitative execution
Tulips are the only flower that, after being harvested, continues to grow – a beautiful idea to include in the creation of a vase intended just for the tulip. The vase becomes, in contrast to the flower, a static object that must relate to something living that changes over time. The same richness of variation that we see in the flower, we also saw in the winning entries.
“Everyone has a tulip vase at home, but like everything else, our needs and taste change. It feels incredibly exciting to look at what a new generation sees as a typical “tulip vase” for 2021″ – Stefan Nilsson, trend expert.
From the ten entries, three finalists were chosen, of which Rose Hallgren was crowned the final winner with her interpretation of the iconic Delft pyramid. The two other finalists were Camilla Hedendahl and Cecilia Mosesson.
